New incoming SMP Chrono - Infill Paint and reluming advice?

    Hi all,

Wonder if anyone can advise on this? I've an incoming in the next few days, a 1996 Omega Seamaster Chronograph (2598.80.00). The seller has advised me that it's in good condition generally, but some of the infill on the bezel has faded over time, and the lume on the hands and markers has lost it's shine.

In respect of the infill, my refinishing advisor has noted that "The hardest thing would be matching the original colour IMHO, I wonder if anyone knows the Pantone or RAL ref for the paint code?"

And would you have any suggestions as to what or who would be the best course of action on getting the lume redone?

Here's a pic of the incoming, if it helps...

    Any advice gratefully received chaps.

    Ta very much.

I found this old thread, which is useful

    viewtopic.php?f=1&t=129524&hilit=bezel+paint

but I have the artistic temperament and delicate touch of an enraged primate - I just know I would screw it up....

    Help!

(And, should I have put this in the Mods and Wreckers section :? )

Re: New incoming SMP Chrono. You might think me daft but------>

I had one of those. Fine watch. Flipped it after 2 1/2 years.

Since so much paint is already missing, I'd remove the rest. I think the look of a plain steel bezel might surprise you. Then if you didn't like it, you wouldn't have to match anything, and Omega would probably give you guidance as to the proper color.

As far as the lume. It's vintage and has a slight patina (which I like). I'd leave it.

    My NJ USA 2 cents.

    Good luck… Joel M

Nice one Joel, that's an option I hadn't considered - but what would you use to remove the rest? Not sure what solvent if any I'd want to risk on the new arrival.

I'll wait and see on the lume - I agree, if it's got a nice patina, it can add to the watch - but I do like a nice bit of 'glow in the dark' too.

Decisions, decisions.... Damn it man, you're not helping!

There was also a much more recent thread on this type of thing: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=180779&p=1828055&hilit=bezel+p aint#p1828055

    Bigbird. Paint removal------>

I would use acetone or nail polish remover that contains acetone.

Be careful, it shouldn't hurt any thing.

Or, pop the bezel off to be safer.
