A very decent gesture on your part and far more in the spirit of this forum than recent events would suggest.

Dear TZ'ers,
After a post a while ago several of you have been in touch with me to see if there is a way of reuniting owners with their missing watches. After a very positive discussion with the owner of the workshop where Geoff used to work since he disappeared six months ago, I am pleased to announce that there might be a way forward on this. Eddie has most kindly given his support also.
I am prepared to try and do what I can to help fellow TZ'ers, as I now live not very far from these premises. Please be aware that some of the watches are complete, some are in bits, some have a little documentation with them, others have none. The current custodian, a skilled watchmaker and restorer of forty years standing, has indicated he may be able to reassemble some at the behest of owners.
However, there are some very clear requirements from the gentleman who is currently the custodian of Geoff's stock in this regard.
1 Contact only me in the first instance. He does not wish to have owners contacting him directly at this juncture.
2 Give me the fullest details you possibly can of your missing watch - brand, model, identifying marks, serial number (if you have it), when it was sent to Geoff, what it was sent for (ie the work you expected to have carried out), straps/bracelet, dial markings, photos (if you have them), etc etc. Essentially everything and anything you can tell us to identify the watch and confirm you are the owner.
3 Wait patiently! This is not going to happen overnight, and I will visit the premises from time to time when I can.
4 Please do not ruin this for others by sending a claim for a common (or even uncommmon) watch on the off-chance there might be one there. No watches will be returned unless we are 100% confident of ownership - this is not negotiable. Any attempts to undermine this process will result in both the current custodian and I ending all further dealings in this matter - and I will notify Eddie. 99.99% of TZ'ers are decent, honest folk and I don't want this jepardised by anyone with less than total integrity.
5 Please do not use this thread as a discussion over the Geoff Dedman case - there are other threads for that.
All correspondance with me should be by pm in the first instance, and then we will switch to email. If you know someone either inside or outside of TZ who has a watch with Geoff Dedman please direct them to this thread.
Please remember I am undertaking this as a purely altruistic endeavour, there are no guarantees and no promises. Also, to be clear, I am taking no legal responsibility in this process. I am acting as a nominated liason with the current custodian only. I will do my best to help you though, and expect any costs directly to me (eg RMSD, fuel etc) to be covered. My time and goodwill is free.
Here's hoping for some joyful reunions!
Best,
TFB.

That's a fantastic gesture and must be a huge to relief to all the members here who have missing watches and who at least now have the prospect of getting their property back.
Even though I'm not involved, let me say that this gesture clearly shows how amazingly great this forum is. Big time thumbs up!!

This would be wonderful - I have sent a pm regarding the three watches he has of mine.
Being a newbie here I had no idea either but a quick Google of the man soon sorted that one.Originally Posted by EdRonax

A very fine gesture to say the least.
Hats off to Mr. Banana.
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
Top Banana :salute:
Thank you for all the kind words. Let's hope I can make some progress over the next couple of weeks.
I have had several owners contact me, so if there are any more please do get in touch. I am intending to visit the premises the week at the end of next week, or early the week after (work permitting).
So clever my foot fell off.
Ok, I have visited the premises today and had a long chat with the current custodian. It is possible we have located some owners watches and I will be in direct contact with them - however it is a very mixed bag - literally. Most are in bits, some seem complete, some not. My overall impression was of a significant task to try to reassemble any good ones - if it is possible or viable.
What we have decided is to give it three months to see how many more owners we can locate, after this point the current custodian who has been incredibly fair about all this will quite rightly want to draw a line under this difficult affair as it has cost him a lot of time and money.
If you know of any other owners who have watches outstanding with Geoff Dedman now is the time to let them know and put them in touch with me.
Further updates will follow in due course.
Thanks,
TFB.

Slow progress indeed, but I am hoping to see the current custodian this week... I've not given up!
So clever my foot fell off.
Another update - in about four weeks a legal process will come to an end and the watches should be released for me to pick up and reunite with their owners.
It has been a long haul, but I hope the end is in sight.... :)

Being a nosy so and so, I'd love to know (when it's finally all over and the watches have been returned to their rightful owners) what the legal process was.
