    £1,800 dilemna - NOW SORTED!

So, with an Autavia and Sub C recently in the bag, and a DB 99.1 due next month, the available watch coffers amount to this sum (+ say £200  ). I had thought of a vintage Speedie, but that particular search has proven, to date, that my desired watch (1960's Cal321) is outwith my budget. I am being drawn to a new (discounted) Pro or waiting for something to come up on S/C. Perhaps I am missing some other options. Any suggestions? Appreciating that E vs W is currently on the Beeb. :)

PS Anything considered........I have even been looking at tt Datejusts on SC!

How about a very early cal 861 Speedy? A 145.022-69 is always a good bet.

You do know, just because you have the funds, you don't have to buy a watch.

We seem to have similar taste in watches so I'd like to suggest a Tudor Snowflake. It's different enough to the Sub and I'm just a little bit in love with mine. Alternatively, how about one of the late 1960s/early 1970s Omega Seamasters? If I were in your position I'd beg, blackmail or steal to get the extra £700 or so for the Big Blue on SC. Mine is sharing the spoils with my Tudor Sub at the mo (the Snowflake is off being serviced and having nice correct bits fitted!).

Which Autavia is it? If it isn't an 1163 or 11630, may I suggest you try one of those? Lovely watches.

Here's the Snowflake (with the wrong crystal, being rectified right now)

    1163:

    Big Blue:

Alternatively how about a Seamaster 2254 and a Helson Sharkmaster?

Vintage Omega pie-pan Constellation in 18ct gold...should be able to get a nice one for less than this but they take some finding.

OR..a nice bicolour Datejust......or a steel Datejust with white gold fluted bezel & Jubilee bracelet.....or an Explorer 1

Heuer Skipper on SC looks a tad bit tempting. Rarer Cal 15 movement and you dont see many about.

This looks good, although someone a bit more up to speed with vintage heuer might give advice on how original everything is and so on http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 523wt_1139

Nice idea! And mine is on SC for well under budget so it can be sent off to STS if desired with what's left over...

Simon, dont forget yours is a snap back. If you do get the back off they can be a right b*gger to get back on without the proper tools.

Yeah, mine is a snap back as well, it's a case of gently levering, do not over pressure and it will 'pop' without much assistance if using the proper tool.

To get back on was pretty simple, prep it, then slowly apply pressure to put it back down, again it just 'pops'. If it isn't going on in a balanced way, i.e. lopsided then remove and restart.
