Show Me, Tell Me, Sell Me... Tudor Hydronaut

    As above.

Seen a few of these on SC and in Google results and they seem like a nice looking watch.
But that's as far as my knowledge goes.

Anyone here have one? Any good?
Anything to look out for/be aware of with these?

They don't seem that common, is that because they're actually "crud"?
    Thank you in anticipation.

    Confused of Manchester, :)

They are a fantastic watch and imo no better or worse finished than an Omega SMP - if they were still in the UK and the range had replaced the Hydronaut it would be a purchase on my list.

I even had the Hydro 1200 which was just an amazing watch - but had to give way with some other sacrifices in order to franchise the Omega 1200 and DSSD.
It's just a matter of time...

Re: Show Me, Tell Me, Sell Me... Tudor Hydronaut

Used to own a Hydronaut Vicky: cyclops (which I like), drilled lugs (which I also like); size, just under the 42mm 'norm' these days, but very wearable. Since flipped, but would have another tomorrow for sure (look up 'fickle twat' in the Oxford Concise - you'll find me staring back at you).

Came with a Tudor rubber strap and deployant (I think), plus a jubilee style Tudor bracelet which was very solid, but didn't really blow my hair back. Tried to source a Tudor oyster for it (Tudor make them, but not for the hydronaut unfortunately) with no success. I think the oyster would have suited it perfectly and the lack of one may have contributed to my ditching it in the end. I did manage to source an aftermarket thing on ebay, but really wasn't happy with the quality of it, so never put the thing on.

Anyhoo, I'd seriously consider chopping in my breitling superocean for another if the opportunity arose.

As above Vicky, nice solid watches, I had the white dial,

Just be careful as there are some good fakes about.

Just searching SC history and it looks like the last one sold in August last year... for £840.
Is that about the "usual" price or was that cheap?

What about the Hydronaut II? Any good?
I saw this one and thought it might be a Vicky Thing

Pre-owned, unworn @ £1100. Good, bad or ugly?

As a price reference watches.co.uk had a Hydronaut (full B+Ps plus 12 month warranty) for £1350 a few days ago.

mwaaa, only really like the version I had (or the earlier subs of course), I thought that the later versions had lost their way a wee bit. But hey, if you like it, that's more than enough. They are well put together and the heritage is sound.

Just checked and watches.co.uk don't appear to have any Hydros in at the moment and the one I spotted was a black bezel (I may be mistaken as I was checking out Tudor subs at the time TBH)

Edited : Spotted it - it's on watchfinder.

Tudors have never sold well here because most couldn't get past the "poor man's Rolex" cliché. Tudor finally gave up and pulled out of the UK market a few years ago (you can't find in them in the US either). Occasionally they make noises about triumphant returns, but they ain't coming back. So the only place you can still see them in the Anglosphere is on English-speaking watch forums.
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

I sold one of these just before christmas. I thought the watch was better than a SMP, although a tiny bit smaller i think.

I like them. Id have another.

Vicky, I've just bought a Triple 6 Dweller from watchfinder.co.cuk and I have it on good authority (from the person handling my sale) that the 79190 with go for around £1500, £400 off the screen price.

Thanks for that Darren, you know fine well I'm having a Tudor "moment" and that could be well tempting

(Loving the 76100 BTW, not been off the wrist since it arrived :) )

Certainly not "crud". built like a tank, actually, possibly the best wrist profile I think I've ever seen, crown guard is perfection, dial is very nicely embossed, just enough bling but definitely tool tough (...as teak). i love mine especially on a nato.

Picked this one up in Hong Kong in 2007. wont be getting rid of it.

I have handled a few of these and in my opinion they are top of the bill, VFM-wise!

The innards are well and proven ETA and the case is more or less Rolex; you can not go wrong, IMHO.
    Go for it, Vicky...

I have the Hydronaut 2 (the 150m version) and I paid about 950 quid for it brand new in Singapore about 18 months ago. Superb watch, perfect case size and I rather like the Tudor Jubilee style bracelet. It is probably my most comfortable watch to wear.

    I say, go for it.

Saw quite a few of them in Bermuda recently - I have long been interested in them and admired many of the designs. Not that keen on the latest range of super-clunky cases though.

For closure for those who didn't guess/or who are interested... I went off the idea of a Hydronaut and bought a Breitling SuperOcean II instead.

If I buy a Tudor I'll put a few quid extra into it and buy a Sub/maybe Snowflake or Big Block Chrono.

Sorry if my post came out with rather less charm than was intended. Was supposed to be with a grin, not a sneer.

I'm just so happy this sudden flowering of the brand happened. And it happened before I became watchyaware, so it's startling to me that such an opinion was possible to recently.

The reason I found this thread was because I was trying to find out as much as possible about this model - I first noticed it a year ago, and was much taken by how the bezel is sunk into the case. I came across it again recently and found it just as engaging.

I was wondering if it's now felt to be a bit on the small side for a diver, and if that it's keeping prices down. Some of the colours seem to have aged better than others.
