It's a nice looking G-shock but that's some serious money...
I dont understand how the postage is only $4.00 on a watch nearly $3000. :?:

I'm a BIG G-Shock collector and I know you guys are thinking this is a crazy price but it's actually correct. It's not Mr. G, it's MR-G (MRG) and they're the top end of G-Shocks.
Casio have been recently trying to move there watches to a more premium level as in Japan, these things sell like hotcakes. The rest of the world aren't quite so crazy but you do get a lot of watch for your money, including Sapphire glass, DLC, Titanium etc etc.
I personally look at it like Seiko who also have a line of HUGELY expensive watches but some of there watches around £50.
I must say though, I wouldn't personally buy this model of MR-G but there have been some nicer ones in the past.
My interest in owning watches was kicked off by a Casio MRG back in 2000, mind you it was only £300 at the time. Bought it with out of one of my first proper wage packets.
Still have it, still going strong, big chunk of a watch but quite pleasing to me!
Seem to be quite hard to get hold of in Europe, they were and still seem to be a product destined for the domestic japanese market.
Not sure if I could say anything that would justify the £2k+ price tag of the watch mentioned though!
Regards,
Chris

That MRG costs a few G's and doesn't even have a light!
Sorry, but that is totally and utterly crazy. There is no sense to that whatsoever (and i like G shocks).

Won't spend that money on a casio ever. It still even looks like any ordinary casio
I think Casio have an unassailable brand with G Shock and are trying to cover all possible "demand price points". They may also have a marketing need to define a clear G Shock hierarchy and summit, in what is a huge range of styles and model genres, changing each month, under the G Shock label. Presumably they are selling some of these, so someone somewhere was thinking "I like G Shocks but I'd be happy to pay more for one for with high end features and exclusivity".
They are readily available here, seem well made, but I've never actually seen one in the wild. Normal G Shocks are indeed very popular and fashionable, for both sexes. I would be suprised if they are selling the MRG variants like the proverbial hotcakes except perhaps to G Shock otaku due to their cost, but I can fully understand their reason to exist. The Oceanus range here seems to be mopping up most of the "high end" Casio demand, from what I can gather from my highly scientific wrist-gazing on the tube.

The price isn't in the movement :) .
But when I actually handled one for the first time, I was more than a bit impressed with the built quality, I've never touched a more solidly and well built watch in my life.
Don't like the looks though.

Daddel.

LOL! $3,000 for a quartz chronograph in a plastic case.
I'm glad there are still people in the world with a sense of humour. :)
Not much plastic to be found on a MR-G I'm afraid :)Originally Posted by Filterlab

It's still just a quartz chronograph though, and even with a metal case it's absurdly priced.
Why?Originally Posted by Filterlab
So every Breitling or Tag Heuer quartz chrono is also absurdly priced?

I agree. Buy what what you like and what you want. I used to own a Breguet type XX and thought it was the worst chrono I've ever had. Gorgeous watch, and it was my grail, but I sold it within months. If I want a chrono, I'd rather have a G Shock, especially if I'm going to really use it and beat it up.Originally Posted by Daddelvirks

Breitling quartz watches are indeed expensive, but there's the brand image to consider too - which makes a large portion of the price of any premium brand product.
Casio just simply do not have the name to command such high prices. It may not be fair, but it is fact.
I don't think he meant me with that remark, but that aside, Casio CAN command such high prices, they sell plenty of MR-G's, just not in Europe :)Originally Posted by Filterlab

Then my absolute sincerest apologies for not checking out the complete specification of the Casio watch before assuming that it was plastic (it's a fair assumption given the history of the models from the brand).Originally Posted by Daddelvirks
Plastic or metal, it's an absurd price for a Casio (in my opinion, and I'm sure I'm not alone), and more fool those who've bought one. I can imagine the conversation in a pub:
"I got a new watch"
"Yeah? What is it?"
"A Casio MR-G"
"Nifty, how much?"
"$3,000"
 "Errr, ok"

Anyway, just my opinion. Apologies for discussing watches on the Watch Talk forum, I've learned my lesson and I shall only read from now on. :D

Nothing wrong with a healthy polite discussion IMHO :)Originally Posted by Filterlab
Personally I couldn't give a toss about people in the pub having a conversation about what my watch might be worth.
I don't like the looks of the MR-G at all, wouldn't buy one, but I think it's worth just as much as a Breitling quartz watch.
Built quality is even better IMHO.

Daddel.

And it's a fact that they sell like hot cakes, and that they're sought-after and collectible, so the word 'Casio' is clearly no barrier to high prices. The watch enthusiast world is wider than you think.Originally Posted by Filterlab
well I really like that, and if this sells at this price shows how quickly the collectors value on these rise.Originally Posted by ralphy
This watch has not been out long, was being sold in selected stores for 3.5K GBP and saw a thread somewhere showing a shop with loads of G-shocks and they one or two of these in the counter.
To expensive for me though.
I will get my coat
Very true, and there are guys on the G Shock forum who own them and wear them in addition to their Rolex's, IWC's, etc, AND their plastic Gs. Some guys appreciate and wear whatever watch suits their mood. That seems a sensible approach to me. Wear what you like. :)Originally Posted by tribe125

For some ´G-schock´ has added brand value.
At least a G-shock is like to get worn instead of demoted to safe dwelling.
Who was it who said 'one should keep an open mind'?Originally Posted by Huertecilla
MPV, hatchbacks and IKEA are all examples of a different thinking - and very, very successful they have been too. It's quite snobbish to dismiss those three examples, they have mass-appeal and there is good reasons for that. I find those who look down their noses at such things tend to be rather elitist.
As for a 'fool who buys on main-stream', well you don't get more mainstream than Casio's, so I guess that leaves those buyers open to the accusation.
"Not for a Casio' is the sign of someone thinking about the complete package and making a personal choice, hardly closed-mind, then.
A good example of a closed-mind is the inference that other makes are demoted to safe-dwelling whilst this Casio would not be. The fact that some people will collect an expensive watch and place it in a safe is more about rareness and exclusivity, is that not what this particular Casio is all about?
More open-mindedness needed all round, I'd say.

THIS is the real Mr G - resident professional drama teacher from Summer Heights High - brilliant Australian tv series - check it out. Might influence your choice of a watch bearing the legend 'Mr G' however . . .
