Genuine and rarer than most. By that, I mean that the name "Newmark" is genuine, I don't guarantee that the watch is.
Eddie
Found this on e Bay. Are these rare as must admit I have never seen one before. I presume as it looks the same as a Hamilton and CWC and is manufactured to the same Mod spec. Good condition and is the seller asking a silly price or is it reasonable for this rare bird?
Go on you experts out there enlighten me please with some history on the make please.

Hi Eddie
Prompt reply! I just think it looks in such good condition for a 25 year watch. Like anything on Ebay you have got to be very carefull. Could it be a case of swapping dials and backs etc? I thought this type eg the CWC chrono was only issued in the 70s?

Nimrod - these normally seem to go for at least £100 less than the BIN price on this one.
Who can say if genuine, but as Newmark was/is hardly a prestige marque I suppose it is unlikely it is total fake.
See the thread a few below re Newmark chronos.
me again - actually it is the same watch as sold last week for around £278 - see here -

I've seen 4 other Newmark's with similar case back markings.
036/80 (In question)
485/80
489/80
499/80
672/80
Perhaps you should verify the movement?
Terry
Hi number 499/80 is for sale at the moment on gisbert-joseph £610 ouch
Paul. :)
Mine is 672/80 - back is marked by long-term use of NATO strap. If anyone can shed any light please speak up..

Thanks for all the replies. I am allways impressed with the knowledge that the members of this forum have.
Must admit I still like the watch but a bit too expensive for me. Which of the three (CWC Hamilton Newmark) is worth the most in that chrono version? I was allways under the impression that Hamilton just had the edge on the prices but I am no expert?
Also looking at the years of issue for the Newmark were they manufactured only for a short period?

You forgot Precista, who also made one of that style.

Should we take bets on whether Precista will again make one of that type? ;)Originally Posted by swanbourne

It never rains but it pours - another Newmark, 216/80, is for sale on ebay now.
From what I've seen, an approximate time-line for the issue of manual wind 2 Button MOD Chronograph models is as follows.
1970 Hamilton RN/RAF/RAN
1972- Hamilton RN/RAF
1975
1972- CWC RN/RAF
1975
1976 CWC RN Submarines? (Non-lume dial)
1980 Newmark RAF
1981 Precista RAF
I've seen quite a few models with mis-matched dials and casebacks, easy done during servicing. I guess an early Hamilton would be the most desirable.

Hi Terry
Thanks for that info. Very interesting. I have been allways keen to know who made what and when in the chrono department
