Thread: If you had £10,000 to buy a watch for life what would it be?

Re: If you had £10,000 to buy a watch for life what would it be?

Guy's giving me some ideas, but I already have a DeepSea, IWC Galapagos, Oris Pro Diver and a 47mm Longines HydroConquest, Oh and a Panerai 90, but my wife has pinched that. My thoughts are towards another IWC, but not a BIG Pilot, I do not like em. If anyone can suggest some 42mm plus IWC's that would fit the bill I would be interested to hear your thoughts.

I think the topic here is that we have 10k to spend .. and we MUST buy a watch with it ... so no chance to buy a homage and piss off the rest on my TR haha!

Therefore as it is for my life it would have to be something that would pass to my son .. and hopefully be something that at least maintains it's value for him and not be too blingy for him to appreciate ..

Therefore it has to be the best value Rolex that 10k can buy .. a nice classic Sub or GMT ...

Probably one of the JLC - perhaps Master Compressor, range but in rose gold - I had a chance to get the smaller version (39mm I think) of the world time in rose gold for £8000 a few years ago

    - I took a picture before I handed it back - stunning 8) 8)

Had not thought of JLC much but thinking about the rose gold divers or a worldtime in Rose Gold could be an option. Anyone have any further options for IWC as well?

John if you find one let me know!! Failing that I'd grab an Orange hand E2 or a second-hand Rodger Dubuis. They are sooo gauche but I like their dials and excess.

    IWC Mark XV
    Panerai 229
    Rolex Submariner

    That'd do me guv.

    **EDIT**

I don't know if I could get those three with £10k! Maybe the Panerai would be a used model.

Would've had lots of ideas 5 years ago. Now I'm drawing a blank. Just can't see spending that kind of money on a watch anymore.

I am now thinking IWC Top Gun could be an option. Anyone have any pics of the 46mm version of these on their wrist?

It would be a struggle to find one for £10k but it would have to be the Panerai 127.

One day I WILL own one

If I can add some money...JlC Duometre or one of several JlC reverso complications in Rose Gold.

Few other brands come close to JlC IMHO

    f p journe chronometre bleu.

If s/h, lightly used might squeeze under £10k

At £20550 new and soon to rise - it isn't looking likely - but I can highly recommend the watch :)

You still have that watch, how much is price range for pre-owned?

Is it a lot heavier than s/s version :D

No idea - but havent seen the black dial, red accents, that cheap as it has the newer clasp etc. 50% off new would be fantastic imo.

I'll always have the watch :)

Relatively easy one this is for me, I would call Gurmot and buy his 1665 of him.
    viewtopic.php?f=3&t=139040&hilit=1665

This is the watch that put me onto Rolex in the first place, fell in love with it instantly and if I had dosh like that to drop on a watch I would be round his house like a shot :D

I already have this..(so feel very fortunate)

But if I didn't then it would be a white gold 5127G PP Calatrava

Re: If you had £10,000 to buy a watch for life what would it be?

I don't know if I could commit to life but in this lovely scenario I'd like a Patek Nautilus Jumbo on rubber (can be found unused for £9995 :-)). I'd love to get a £10k Double Red as stiglet suggested but somehow I don't think that would be possible. Steve Mcqueen Explorer possible too. Missed one a few weeks ago and just saw one in the Watch Club last week :drunken: .

Hope you all had a lovely Xmas, can't beat a bit of the Royle Family plus the 'Airport-esque' satire after was brilliant.

I'd be looking for something pre-owned but genuinely collectable at one of the auction houses - on the assumption that I would be buying at its true market value.

Blancpain 50 fathoms Milspec 1, you would get plenty of change and how often would you see the same watch on another wrist
