Very nice ,one on my grail list :salute:
After spending some time talking to various people on TZ about buying a Rolex, it occurred to me that I was in the price range for a Big Blue, a watch I'd been lusting after for quite some time. A speculative PM to Stanford paid off and I was in London yesterday to collect this beautiful watch. It's had the full treatment at STS and Bienne and is in mint condition. Unfortunately I let down someone who was going to sell me his Submariner - if you're reading this, sorry again for me being so fickle!
Now to decide if I should keep the Sharkmaster or not:
Think I will!
Cheers,
Simon

Very nice ,one on my grail list :salute:
That is a very cool piece of history - excellent catch! Do you think it will be a safe queen or are you going to wear it? It looks in a-m-a-z-i-n-g condition. Congratulations :-)
“ Ford... you're turning into a penguin. Stop it.” HHGTTG
 You are certainly picking up some crackers recently Simon. Simply stunning!
Thanks chaps, it really is a lovely watch, all down to Bob!
I'll wear the watch but only occasionally. It's in such superb condition that I don't want to risk damaging it.

I'm confident it has gone to a good home :) ....and I'm sure it can't be worn less often than it was
That is a really stunning watch. Please PM me if you ever get bored with it. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Hi, Simon!
Congrats for this iconic watch.
The "Deep Blue Seamaster" is very hard to find.
A new dial without the -T swiss made T- is typical for a Bienne restauration.
Have you recieved the old parts?
Enjoy it and keep it in good condition!
Regards,
Corto!
Ps: I like your taste!
Thank you! The replaced parts are on their way. I didn't know that about the dial, thank youOriginally Posted by corto

Thats the problem with the Bienne service.
For the most vintage watches, they have no T swiss made T dials anymore.
My FM 911 back from Bienne
Good to see, no T's.
The old dial.
Or here:
My Mark III after the revision (change from the black to the blue version).
No T's
The old one.
But Omega do a nice work and the T's are not so important for me.
Not yet :D . Will definitely keep you posted though! As well as the original Oyster strap, I have now managed to source a box & hang tags etc which I am 99% sure are the correct for that particular model so it's shaping up to be nice set.Originally Posted by Foxy100

I bought a bracelet for my '68 Sub:
But it somehow looks too respectable. Looks much better on a nice old fabric strap:

Nice find. Looks really good.Originally Posted by Foxy100

Stunning :D Congrats, it's one of quite a few big bold 70's Omega watches I would have if there was the cast to buy them, they just have so much presence. 8)
Corto: those two look superb, I particularly like the used dials.

Very nice, I've fancied one of those for years 8)
"I looked with pity not untinged with scorn upon these trivial-minded passers-by"
Truly stunning and an excellent choice - congratulations!
“Don’t look back, you’re not heading that way.”
Could you tell me how the sub dial at 9 'clock works, please. There's the main hand (on the sub dial) and what looks like an inner rotating disc with a red arrow indicator. I presume it's the hour register - does the red arrow indicate time elapsed 24 hrs +?
Lovely piece by the way.
Thanks,
James
The disc with the red arrow head indicates 24hr time, it is not part of the chronograph function
very nice seamaster :)
WOW! Is definitely a collector's keeper. 8)
It's a beauty mate and I'm glad you went with your heart on this one. You can always find a sub later
Cheers - Simon
Superb catch, I've seen Bobs and know what a magnificent example it is! Well done
Mine says hi :-)
Nice one Simon.
Can't see the Sharkmaster getting that much wrist time now you have the 120 TBH.

Oh, I don't know, I do like the Sharkmaster a lot and I'm going to be careful about wearing the Big Blue. The Sharkmaster is on an Omega mesh and feels good to wear.Originally Posted by andy tims

Nice, but way too big for my skinny wrists.
Paul
Nice example - Congrats... did you say it has been serviced by BOTH Bienne & STS?
Must've been tough decision, between Rolex Sub and the 120 chrono... hope you're smitten :P
Wear in great health!
From what I understand, it was sent to STS for the restoration work but they didn't have a lapping machine so they sent it on to Bienne.Originally Posted by c24/7
Yes, I had three very good offers of Subs and was going to pull the trigger on one when the PM came back about the Big Blue. Took a few hours of thought, I ended up sticking my Tudor Sub on its bracelet and putting the Sharkdiver on the other wrist! I'll get a Rolex Sub one day but it's not often you get a chance to have such a mint Big Blue.

Lovely example.
Omega really was on top form in the 60s and 70s and made some seriously interesting, funky and quality watches.
Hi Simon
Cracking purchase....I would have one of these in a flash. I bought a mkiii to fill the gap for a while , amazingly the case on these is even higher !
Enjoy it fella - Thanks Neil
Love these watches and this is the one that got me lusting after vintage Omega all cos of one Mr Sparmar! Cheers m8! LOL
Here is mine to say hello...
Good decision. They are IMO one of the best looking watches of all time. Absolutely right to get one ahead of the Sub, they are so much rarer. I love mine so much that I got 2, just in case I need the cash and have to sell one I'd still have one.
cheers
Andy
That's just greedy, hoarding them like that!Originally Posted by Foztex

And photographing them in 70's Flying Saucer sweets is brilliant :D
LOL, I love that photo on the saucers... yum! When Andy and I did the article for DeskDivers on these we needed to have a stash of them, luckily Andy has been able to keep his. Over the years Ive had 4 or 5 of them and cant imagine a time being without one, theyre tooo pretty!
Very nice indeed must say it is excellent condition, what year please?

This is my ultimate grail watch.
BTW if you'll ever want to get rid just PM me :hello2:
Lovely watches and when freshly restored by Bienne they are absolutely stunning in person. I've had three over the years and am now down to one - but the two went for good causes 8)
