cool. maybe they try a bit too hard sometimes but theyre still cool.
I can't seem to figure this one out. Some brands seem to get a bit of a drubbing on here, like TAG-Heuer, for perhaps being an expensive watch that non-watch people buy. Is Oris in that same group? They make interesting-looking watches, have a nice connection to motorsport with Williams F1, and are proper Swiss. Still, it seems like they are not as highly-regarded as more "underground" brands like Sinn or Damasko.
I'm seeing what look like Oris bargains fairly often on SC and am wondering whether it's worth the punt.
cool. maybe they try a bit too hard sometimes but theyre still cool.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Personal tatste, I don't like oris at all and would never own one, I have however had a few tags ( Monaco's) and would not rule out another
If you like oris buy one :)
In my book they are very cool :D
and blue lume, what more could you want.

Not cool, apart from the Meistertaucher, but good value watches all the same.
Not 'cool' in the fashionable sense, but good solid watches that represent superb value for money in the secondary market, some good designs with a fairly strong identity, especially the divers and crowns. However an Oris watch did feature at the end of the movie "Constantine", and Keanu was pretty cool in the Matrix if that helps your purchasing decision. :D :D :D :D
Cool, had an old one that was shaped like a ufo and still have this regulator, before they went massive.

Not cool. They don't really seem to stand for anything, don't really have a theme. It's just a bunch of random watches. Then again, the same could be said about Seiko and that's one of my favourite brands!
Just goes to show how subjective 'cool' is.
Oris=Cool 8)
Oris is cool.. I think you should judge watch's based upon your own feelings, the Oris owner is a WIS and if other people don't like them tough. It's a brand with heritage unlike some other revived ones.
Oris are definately cool. when you want a watch with a little colour.
ish
Cool. 8)
Refreshingly independent, quietly distinctive and generally not seen on the wrists of show-offs.
.
Oris have been (for many) a good introduction to mechanical watches. And I think that is what they are, ‘a good introduction’.
A good ‘stop’, but not ‘a terminus’.

THIN is the new BLACK
For me Oris divers are cool. I don't like like the rest of its models. Used to have 2 titanium divers in the past, great watches.
Now in the hands of its new owner but they do make some very good watches at a very realsitic price point..
I like more Oris models than i don't like. The fact that they are not as popular as some brands yet make some very nice watches does not make them the 'cool' singer in the band but more the 'enigmatic' Bass player! In my book, that is cool, just not the epitome of cool. I don't think they try 'too' hard, i just think it's the same old situation, you like them or you don't and i like 'em!
I think the big crown/pointer date models, like this one, are very nice. If someone at Oris decided to lose the golden bits, they would be even better :P
Cheers

I think they're cool (but then what do I know?). They're a good solid watch, quite understated in the main which in my opinion makes them cooler than the watches that are trying too hard to be different and recognizable but for all the wrong reasons.......
The styling is always weird, basic eta and I have never seen an Oris I liked the look of personally.
And that name!
Sounds like a cross between arse and orifice.
Wanna look at my Oris?
Cheers,
Neil.
I don't really think any watch company is cool or uncool. You either like a particular watch they make or you don't. Currently I like some of their divers and, when I am able to buy off SC, I might well get one. Unfortunately a lot of their current range is just too big for a skinny dude like myself.
I don't think they are 'cool' in a fashionable sense - they are a fairly medium brand trying to re-position themselves (and with some success lately). I have had 70s Oris' and truthfully, they were one up from Timex. For what they are - they are expensive now and I think better value could be had elsewhere (i.e. Timefactors). I don't think they are ever going to cut the mustard with real enthusiasts. That's just my opinion - for what it's worth
Oris have nice looking watches, but I do give importance to have a non basic ETA movement.
Ever since my boss (who know nothing about watches) came home from a journey with a brand new Oris strapped around his wrist, i find it hard to buy one myself, though i like the design of the diver models
Cool I would say.
Cheers.
Makes a change from slagging Bremont I guess
:D
They can be somewhat wayward with their styling, but they make a very nice watch at a good price. I've had several, and one is a permanent fixture in my collection:
There are several others that I'd cheerfully have if funds permitted.

IMHO the divers cases are horrible. Just hate the roundness just not my cup of tea at all
Tried a BC3 Sportsman on a bracelet and a Chronoris last week at an AD. Felt really solid and the quality seemed above their pricepoint. I'd have taken the BC3 if funds permitted but the Chronoris seemed too expensive for a brand whose bread and butter is in the £500-£1000 range - I could feel a resale disaster coming on.
As for cool, as I'm a WI rather than a WIS and am less worried about the movement driving a watch than some, I'm probably not qualified to comment...
I don't have any strong feelings one way or the other about Oris. I've no reason to dislike them but I suppose I've never found any of their designs jump out enough to make me want one.
regards,
Nick
Actually, this thread made me grab my Oris and change the strap to wear it today:

It was Oris that got me really into watches, probably about 6-7 years ago.
I bought a blue faced divers on rubber strap and then shortly after that an XXL pointer day.
Sold the XXL to a mate who still has it and traded the Divers in for a 2254 SMP.
I like them and have had 4 so far, always wanted a regulator but never got round to buying one!
I bought this one from CH last week.
I like Oris, but they are not so consistant in their model line-up.
They change it to often IMHO, and there's no real pattern.
Cheers,
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!

Not my scene, which is a shame, as I liked their general mien. And I still retain a soft spot for this comparatively tiny, "ghey" Oris that's for "girls" (according to the teenagers on FoOF!), which I owned once:
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
It's all a bit subjective, but I like the fact that they have a wide range of styles & they're all mechanical.
I've got 2 (very different) Oris watches...
Miles Rectangular
& a Titan TT1
Love 'em both :D
but to answer the question - in a Top Gear manner
The fact that I have 2 means they're probably - seriously unclool
Not sure of they are cool or not, but despite never having had one, or having had a burning desire to buy one, I do like quite a few of their designs.

Wanted - Damasko DC57
certainly get a thumbs up from me :thumbright:
in my opinion great value for money
was looking at moving on my grand prix watch a while ago...glad I still have it
Big thumbs up from me, a bit like gee-whizz they are the maker that got me into watches, I've had this one since my wife bought it for my 30th birthday:
I like the fact that they are so firmly and consistently mechanical, perhaps the only Swiss maker to have only ever made mechanical for such a long period (sine 1905?). I do agree that they seem to have lost their way a little bit lately, with the (imo) over-sized divers, but the classic styles - the big crown and the pointer date - I really like. There is something determinedly old fashioned about those ... ;)
I really like mine, first expensive watch i could afford to get and probably should get worn more 8)
I would go with cool, I like the style of the Chronoris especially in orange.
Cool.
I love my Blue TT1 diver. The brand that started it all for me and showed me there are other quality swiss watches out there other than Omega and Rolex.
There were quartz Oris.Originally Posted by tertius

Again, I'm not sure if they are cool or not, but the are good watches. My recently sold Diver date is a match for a SMP, but at less than half the cost of the Omega, it must be at least good value.
Cool!!!
These are/have been mine. I had six of them, and i liked them all.
I'm looking for a nice priced Williams 2008 Chrono at the moment, lovely piece.
Never owned one and when I tried one in an AD I didn't think it was worth dropping £750 on.
So, probably "Not cool". :D
Just bought a TT1 on SC which will be arriving next week.
I suppose the length of time that I keep it for will determine how cool I think they are! 8)
no idea if oris are cool or not, mainly because i have no idea what cool is but
i bloomin' luv mine.
