    Any Omega X-33 experts?

    Hi all

There's an Omega X-33 up for grabs on the Bay. The seller admits that it's malfunctioning and has been ever since it's been in his possession. The pictures show that it's permanently stuck in the Countdown mode with what I presume is an error message - "CDT PP:PP:PP". He's played around with it taken it to a dealer and neither of them can get the watch to function.

Has this happened to any of you and do you know how to "reset" it. I guess with such a high-fangled watch it may not be as easy as simply taking the battery out. I've looked through a manual online and there's no trouble-shooting section.

I doubt I'd bid on the watch as it doesn't have the original bracelet, or box and comes with no papers and manuals but it doesn't hurt to think hypothetically.

    Thanks very much!

    Hi Rob
ordinarily the way to reset the X-33 is to remove the battery and then to short the battery terminals before inserting a new battery IIRC.

But thereafter if there's a problem I believe the unit has to go onto a movement holder with its own power supply and diagnostics is done with a specialised multimeter measuring voltages and current consumption.

Not a DIY job, I fear.

From other forums a module replacement on an X-33 is an expensive return to Omega.

I doubt I'd bid on the watch as it doesn't have the original bracelet, or box and comes with no papers and manuals
hum - it may not even have an original movement??

A full replacement module should be about £300 - actually pretty reasonable (considering the servicing costs of an automatic)

Thanks for the replies. I asked because I know the 1st Gen variety have a reputuation for being prone to problems.
A replacement module for GBP300 isn't that bad though - it's about half of the current bid on the watch.

I would check on that , I seem to remember the module is a lot more than that......

If it was that cheap the seller would have fixed it himself, the dealer ,if a AD , would have told him to send back to Omega or at least got a quote for him....
    Cheers..

I've emailed an Omega repair centre to see if they can give me an idea more or less on what it would cost. I'll let you know what figures they provide.

Will be interesting to hear the costs they quote you, but doesn't sound like you'd be getting that much of a bargain on that particular watch after servicing, particularly with no bracelet, box or papers.

Thanks for the link to the manual. It's a pity they never put a trouble-shooting section in for such a technical watch.
No word back from Omega yet on what a replacement module will cost. I'll try mail the HQ in Switzerland tomorrow.

There's one on the SC?! I knew joining this forum was a bad idea. How much if I may ask?
Be prepared for lots of arbitary smiley faces wherever and whenever I can slip them in to get the post count up (just kidding).
