:D
I just realised that the last 3 watches I've worn this week are all products of the decade that some call the decade that taste forgot.
The funny thing is I think many 70's products are extremely well-designed, and brimming with character, whilst remaining unmistakeably of their era. To illustrate the point, I've taken a couple of pics:
Anyone else care to share any other 70's masterpieces?
:D
Nice selection there and I agree, the 70's was a golden age for watch designs.
Don't have many group pictures to share but this one should fit the bill,
It might be the decade that time forgot but for me, the best watch period of them all.
Is that a Breitling Super Ocean Robertf? I'd love to get my hands on one of those some day.
No access to my watches or pics at the moment but keep them coming.
Love the strap on that Breitling!Originally Posted by Robertf

Undoubtably a great decade for chronos... a time before the boring 7750 found it's way into every second mechanical chrono on the planet. :sleepy2:
I have quite a few but here are a some of my favourites;
Rich.
I absolutely agree, the 70's brought some great watches. Below the "brothers" Bullhead.
Not a brand I've ever seen or heard of before but what a cracker 8)Originally Posted by Richie_101

Nearly, its a transocean. Since I got it refurbed and a toshi on it I've worn it more than anything else I own!Originally Posted by supermd
Some wonderful period pieces on here so far, keep them coming.....
This is a nice posting!
The 70s: the time, Valjoux 77 supremly ruled the watch world. I think the 70s were a great period!

Here are few of mine
My Dugena; bought from a fellow member and currently at Richard's place for the full spa treatment
Junghans Chrono. Sold to a forum member (and he took some cracking shots of this watch - far better than this one)
At last, a non Valjoux watch! Seiko Bellmatic! Dial colour? Russett brown (remember the Triumph Dolomite in Russett brown!)
Mine, love them:
Richie, you might remember one of them, it works just great, thanks!

The 70's was a golden age for watches imho, there's just something about the decade that's so right when it comes to watch designs. Practically everything in my little collection is from the 70's.
Cheers,
Gary
God, I love vintage chronos. A far cry from the sober efforts we get nowadays!
:)
some fantastic stuff on here already, a fair few I've not seen before.
Here's one I had refurbished for my dad a few months ago which fits the bill too.
SL That Lemania is NICE!!! Do you have a couple of extra shots of that and a bit of history?Originally Posted by S.L

This is the best watch I have from the 70's, I have another 2 from the decade but those are not quite as nice. 8)
Agreed, some great watches im this thread. A classic decade for watches. Some of mine from the decade:
Dave
Great thread and some nice metal on show already. Here are a few from my vintage collection although a couple hail from the tail end of the 60s i don,t think you will mind
Cheers Willie
some great watches in this thread, egyptfive those enicars are fantastic!
been wearing this one lately. it's got a lemania cal 873 and a speedmaster dial, the case is a dual-crown internal bezel type from EPSA (manufacturer of super-compressor cases). the strap is new in the pics but has since acquired a " lovely patina" from prolonged exposure to potato chip oils.
Well if my speedsonic lacks taste then I'll eat it :D

This thread could be dangerous to my wallet. Great pieces so far.
I have a number of 70s Chinese watches but also one not-Chinese 70s watch with very typical 70s styling--and I love it:
Tressa Lux w/A. Schild 5206-2
The Brietlings on show here are better than anything they do today.

70's was the time when they could make watches...
Here are some of mine:
Start with some quartz
Then Bullheads
After that some divers
and some drivers ;-)
Best Regards

Nothing like the LATE 60s-70s especially for DIVERS and of course chronos... the era of reaching for the stars and depths of the ocean... I will have to revisit this thread when I have time to take the divers out... GREAT SHOW thus far!
Many thanks gents for taking the time.
Great topic! Some fabulous watches, Clay, I love that cal 873, but you knew that already :)
Cheers..

Time to put this posting on top of the list again. This posting is very interesting: Rolex adapted their 60s/70s watch (Explorer), Zenith presented the reissue of the Zenith El Primero, the 2010 issue of the watch posted above en Tudor reinvented the Monte Carlo chrono...
It's obvious that the Great Watch Brands have rediscovered the 70s. Let's try to get as many watches from the 70s as possible, before these reissues make the originals too expensive for us, mortals souls.

I must say I noticed that lots of the news from Basel was somewhat 70's flavoured!
No Tudor chronos posted on here yet...
Did someone mention the '70s? 8)
My contribution to the super 70's:
Alpina chronograph with now sought after Lemania 1340 (not 5100).
Some lovely individual designs from the time when there was no such thing as a "Focus Group".
Wistfully

Never seen an "Alpina" - and its fantastic. Can you share any information about it?
There's some very nice posts here and I have to say that I really like the look of that Transocean and the Chrono-Matic.
To me the 70's is epitomised by a chrono on a Rally strap - not sure why.
Here's my '79 RootBeer which I note that Jed recently referred to as a 70's porn star watch
These 70's watches are some of my favourites. Very cool!
Ah..the 70's...class..
Just bought this. Expect delivery in the morning!
Looking for a nice strap now....
Here you go Robertf. Some further reading on the Alpina Competition chronograph.

Stunning, absolutely stunning. Please feel free to keep the pics coming  Having been born in the 70's, I did consider posting a photo of myself. However, thought better of it as I'd stick out like a thorn amongst the roses.
OK just for you Rennug, a few of mine past and present.
Omega Constellations
