    REVIEW - Breitling Chrono Avenger

    2001-2007 44m Titanium.

Breitling Souce says........ "The Chrono Avenger is the result of extensive research aimed at improving the essential features of Breitling wrist instruments, both for civilian or military use. This heavy duty chronograph incorporates major technical and aesthetic innovations. Its sturdy construction is a reminder that Chrono avenger is designed for intensive use".

    I say..........

I've actually had 4 of these little (or big) beasties, and its a machine that I keep going back to.
Lightweight, rugged, relatively inexpensive, tool watch through and through.

What amazes, when you first try one.... is its weight and comfort. Its Super light for its size (100.2g head) being titanium, and the Pro1 bracelet (as tested) is extremely flexible and very easy to adjust with a micro fitting section in the clasp. The Pro1 bracelet also benefits from a divers extension link concealed within the clasp. The later Pro2 bracelet does away with this feature.

The dual coated AR sapphire is great and almost does a vanishing act  .
The dial is well laid out and highly ledgible in pretty much every light. The stark contrast of the white hands and markers, make this a "look once" at the time kinda watch.
The lume, at night time, probably is a slight downfall, and I wish Breitling had Lumed the figures as well as the dot markers behind them. If you've been out in the sunshine all day, this isn't really an issue. In the U.K that rarely happens

What really stands out is the depth of the watch on your wrist. It measures 17.6mm and the dial looks as if it's set well down into the case, giving it a very chunky look (the glass thickness is a big player in this look).

The bezel is unidirectional with a total of 120 firm and decisive clicks, and is kept in place with no less than eight screws, assuring security.

The crown and pushers on this model look fantastic, and are, I think made perfectly. With castle turret collars around the textured edge pushers, and a crown which looks really meaty (again textured). The pushers aren't screw down, but yet the watch still maintains a 30bar (300m) WR test.
The quartz only CA M1 version has the facility to use these pushers under water !...and tested to 100bar (1000m).

The automatic movement in the CA is a Breitling 13, basically a refinished ETA Valjoux 7750. It does the job, and each is Chronometer certified.

Somebody said on the forum not so long ago....." The Chrono Avenger is almost an underground watch, and those who have one mostly swear by them - once they've discovered them, that is "

Well go out there and discover one !

The watch that replaced this in 2007 was and is the Avenger Skyland, finished in polished an brushed stainless steel. It is a similar looking, but very different animal.

These are great watches, and very wearable. Always wanted one after watching the film "Blood Diamond"

Great watch with fantastic wrist presents. Its a shame that Breitling has abandoned the use of titanium on all there models apart from the aerospace.

I have to admit I'm a fan of these. I really enjoy the high contrast of the dial and numerals.

Also a fan, having owned two, one of which is still hanging around. The Ti case really lets the funky 7750 rotor sound through though!

I've seen pics on brown leather and the Ti case looks really good like this 8)

Hi Simon, as far as I know, this is a limited edition CA which was produced for Austrian Blackhawk helicopter pilots (although I'm not certain if it was actually issued, or if it was an unofficial "unit pride" piece, however, its most likely to be the latter). The photo (above) is from a member here on the forum and after seeing this pic I now wear my CA almost permanently on a green NATO. 8)

I've not been a fan of the Breitling range - but the case colour and look of it is quite compelling. Sans logo for me.

One of the watches I've sold over the last few years that I sometimes really miss. The crown and pushers are just beautiful and textured.
