How about
(1) Seiko Presage: automatic watches with great craftsmanship
or
(2) Casio MT-G watches: Solid rough & tough with loads of features.

I would probably go for a "mainstream" model that is also available on more watch websites as it is much easier to get replacement straps, parts etc should the need arise.
