Hi Mark,
Same question again – you’re clearly a popular chap at the moment...
Thanks,
Paul
Thanks. Cheapest one ships from Ireland. Grey importers and box/instruction compromises I can live with, substandard watches less so. Probably worth a punt then at £155?
So I’m looking at Seiko’s midsize SKX013 diver because I’ve got twig-like wrists and a fairly lengthy trip in the new year that wants something waterproof.
Creation Watches looks to be sold out...
Evening all. I'm just finishing up a build using a Miyota 8215, which is all good to go besides needing the little tabs and screws to hold the movement in place. The internet seems fairly full of...
"Caring for machines is as essential as caring for yourself,” an old East German poster proclaims in one of Nomos’s workspaces.
Lovely. Interesting read indeed.
Nope. Sold on the linen dial idea now, though. And throwing the net for AKs too, date or otherwise.
It may be an Air King Date but yes, what a thing! Absolutely nail-on-head what I had in my mind. Easy now trigger finger, easy... 🙂
I'm rather liking the leather look. Following one of the suggestions here I uncovered the curved end Hirsch – looks like a good option.
I should add that in the end I do prefer the Jubilee too....
Of course they come in different sizes. There's a search I wish I'd asked Google about. Live and learn...
A side thought on Hirsch and similar leather: how well do they work for slimmer wrists? As a chap who frequently folds under the end of a strap to fit, I worry it'll look like I'm a nine-year-old...
A few days in sunny Lisbon this week has me thinking about smart watches (as in well dressed, not touch screen) and short sleeves. I've an idea that a Datejust with a linen dial and brown leather...
Thanks for the advice, chaps. Timed the Rolex over last 24 hours and it's -7 seconds. Will likely book it in for the peace of mind at least.
The car comparison is interesting – I have a couple of...
Interesting read, this. Has provoked a question I've been plundering the search for every now and again: I was generously gifted a 1999 Explorer last year for a big birthday. It has box and papers...
Slight thread resurrection as I managed to take some proper pictures of Dad's old Oyster Perpetual this weekend, which has sat in a drawer since I last posted about it. Turns out some of the details...
And one more pic, head only:

Bit more work on this today. Picked up a cheap Explorer-style case on eBay the other week for about £30. First job was to pop the flat mineral crystal to measure up for a (deliberately) cheap domed...
Hi Ollie. Just to let you know your inbox is full – just got a bounce back on my last message.
Assuming the best way to learn is to try, I've decided to attempt an homage to a watch that doesn't quite exist – largely because it can be done using parts I won't sob over if they get ruined. And...
This not being a 3, 6, 9 dial. Would've nicely filled the hole left by the Explorer's recent swelling:

Thanks for the helpful reply. I did look at Cousins but thought they were trade only? Can hobbyists apply?
So my first experiments in modding are going well so far – I've removed and reset hands and dial on an old Seiko a few times now for practice. Inevitably the next step is a Seiko mod (Fifty-five...
Treated myself to this on Boxing Day – a 5606-8010 LM with quite a charming brushed case. Hacks too. I'm fond of the semi-rice bracelet but might tuck that away safely in the drawer in favour of a...
Sunday best Explorer, mostly. But 6308-8000 Seiko too, because it's dated December 1976 – my first Christmas:

Will definitely do. Toolset arrived this morning so it looks like this might be a Christmas project – the practicing with an old Seiko bit at least.
Dagaz for dials? Yobokies?
