I think Panerai have gone beyong the "temporary fashion thing" as they have been around (the mainstream) for about 15 years!
I have a Rolex (5513) and 2 Panerai (111 + 232), and if the Baliff was...
I think it was just an excuse for Rolex to put EVEN BIGGER lugs on one of their watches!
After this year's Basel show he might go for the less-blingy Rolex-ish option.....the new Tudor Pelagos.
...if he can find a dealer at which to buy one!
The Auto for me as well. I prefer a sweeping seconds hand. Saying that, my Auto needs a service!
I have a PRS18A (ETA) which needs a service as it has become very difficult to screw in the crown. Does anyone know a watchmaker who can service the watch and who also has access to parts specific to...
Yup, I have had an Oktopus Titanium for about 18 months. Lovely watch and fantastic quality & service.

Mine would be a Heuer Diver (preferably an Automatic version). Luckily, I already have an 844/3: :D

The best adjective for the watch I am wearing today is............Oktopussy

Panerai and Heuer.
The other half mostly wears a PAM119 for everyday, a Rolex Oyster midsize 77080 for posh, and a 1991 Tag Heuer 2000 midsize quartz for sport (All paid for by me  ).
Of course you should, a 111 or 112 are the best value PAMs out there. You can't go wrong with either. 8)
Another vote for a vintage Heuer. Or, if you have trouble getting one within your budget, how about a Carrera re-edition (The early manual-wind version without Tag on the dial)?
I say keep the SB3 (more versatile IMHO).
I would say go with a Historic model as these are (IMHO) the essence of the Panerai brand. I would warn against buying a 40mm model even if you do have small wrists as plenty of people who go down...
Thanks for the great post. It has made me realise that there is a Silverstone-sized hole in my Heuer collection.
I would go with the 219 (or 111 as previously suggested). I have tried on countless models with the 1950 case but none of them wore as well as my 111. I also prefer manuals to automatics.
