<<<< PRS-18 - Just because....>>>>

Very nice! I was just about to start a thread to share a couple quick snaps of mine on the ski slopes, but I'll just tack on to yours instead:

How does yours do in terms of the second hand hitting the markers? I'm afraid mine hits halfway between the lines most of the time. Thinking about cracking it open and trying to remove and re-seat the hand. Aside from that, it's the perfect grab-and-go tool watch.
-
Mine very nearly hits half of the markers and does hit the other half bob-on. I'm an OCD watch owner about lots of things but quartz second hands hitting markers bizarrely isn't one of them.
My next nato buy is a black - yours looks cool.
-
It's not worth trying to reset the seconds hand on a 715Li. If you reset the time, the seconds hand will often hit the markers after a couple of revolutions only to drift out again after a while. I suspect it will still do this even if you reset the seconds hand.

Great pics! I love my 18Q
-
Mine is great too. Looked at it when I woke up at half 6 this morning and the lume was still going. For the record mine is pretty good for second markers, but there is quite a lot of play in the minute hand. I suppose that is normal with this movement.

Very nice! Is that the ETA or Miyota 9015 version? If the latter, how loud is the rotor noise? I've owned and flipped at least one 9015-powered watch where the rotor was almost comically loud, but I've never had a chance to see the PRS-18A up close.

Of course mate and your pics are excellent. I'm going to change my title to just "PRS-18" so others can play too.

I have the 18 auto the rotor in the miyota makes no sound at all, I put it down to the case as my Everest is like a baby's rattle!

Hah! Yes, the Everest was the one I had to flip so I didn't wake up the neighbours (and also it was too big for my wrist). Good to hear that the -18A is quieter. Perhaps I will think of flipping my Q for an A... the hand will have more chances per second to hit the markers then. ;)

Thanks very much. Looking forward to seeing what others have got to share too...
workahol, it's the 9105. It's my first and only automatic so I can't really comment in terms of it's comparison with other watches. You do hear it every now and then when you move in a way that sets the rotor spinning properley - sort of sounds like a ball bearing rolling round and round a ceramic bowl if that makes any sense? It's a nice smooth mechanical sound though which I quite like, it reminds me it's not 'just' a quartz like my others.

I got an 18Q for Christmas and have been wearing it for work ever since, very pleased with it.

What amazes me about it is the fact that it's so wearable; I never know mine's there, it's not obtrusive so I'm never overly aware of it.

Really like the look of these.
I've been looking at Seiko's (Sumo's and 007's) for a weekend tool watch for doing outdoor stuff like cycling etc and haven't been able to decide.
This looks just the business. They look pretty robust with the bead blasted finish.
Can anybody tell me what the bezel action is like?

It's flexible, but not unbreakable. Lucky for me that watches from Eddie are such fantastic value!
-
I really must get one sometime, very good value for money.
-
So - arrived home from work intending to pull the trigger on an auto, then suddenly thought maybe go for a quartz.
I usually only buy mechanical movements, but as this is a weekend/holiday tool watch - do I want to wind and reset the time at the end of every week? If it's a keeper, then I assume an auto (Myota - I think) is going to need a service some time down the line?
Can somebody please give me some idea of a realistic lifespan for a quartz and average expected battery life.
Would an auto be more durable than the quartz?
Would an auto be easier to re-sell in the future?
Mmmm-not sure!!

The web site states a 10 year battery life!!!

Strangely enough, I've just flipped my newish PRS-18Q for an older PRS-18A, the ETA-powered version. I'm already sort of regretting it, since the faintly yellowish lume on the newer watch was just lovely to behold. It's a funny old hobby, this one.

Oh no... don't start that old debate up again! And I'm not talking about what engine powers it ;-)

Sorry, has that discussion been held before?
Anyway, have ordered myself an auto tonight.

I got this one from watch obsession - they seem to have a few different colours

While we are on the subject, I am told that the battery has given up - it surely isn't 10 years old already, is it? Is it a standard take it to Timpsons job, or more specialised?

here's my 18Q. It's the only watch i've flipped and bought another within the space of a couple of months. It's a beautiful watch and is a different look from my other divers with the beadblast finish.

On a Bonetto Cinturini 300D. The strap has a nice fit, solid deployant claps, and vanilla aroma.

Suits it very well. I may have to give this strap a try.

Didn't you recently beadblast a bracelet to go with this? Are you gonna polish that too?
Edit: Looking very nice though, you're a brave man to willingly introduce abrasive materials to a watch!

Thanks :-) I had a strap-code bracelet beadblasted, sold that to Andy recently who is (I think) wearing it on his PRS-18. I was going to sell my PRS-18 because I'd spent all my pocket money on more watches a couple of weeks ago and felt like I should sell a few. When it didn't sell (because of the scratches on the bezel presumably) I decided to polish it.

That photo of your PRS-18 on the beadblasted strapcode cost me! In a blatant case of copying I bought the same and bead-blasted it at work, it's a good combination.

Haha! Brilliant. How did it turn out?

I was pretty pleased with how it came out thanks, considering it was a quick 2 minute job. I couldn't quite match the finish on the case but in most light you can't really tell. I suppose I could have done the case to match but I don't have the knowledge and skill to strip it down so it'll have to do just as it is.

Good to see it being used properly. One of my mates (not a forum member) has trashed his bezel even more and managed to put a little hole in the crystal at 4 o'clock while welding.
