Is China importing a lot of USED watches? Archie says so.
In another thread it's been discussed that China is importing a lot of new watches.
This Australian guy Archie says that they also seems to be sucking up most of the used watches...

Personally I think the prices are up and the supply is down when I look at for example PP Calatrava watches at Chrono24, compared to some years ago - and this is despite the current economic climate.
Keep in mind that China might have a bubble economy too, so investing in watches might be a way for them (as for us) to secure against inflation and crashes.
Also see his other videos, they are rather funny.

So in summary - global currencies "fu*ked", countries "fu*ked" and the Chinese are buying everything up so he cannot buy at good pricies.

Re: Is China importing a lot of USED watches? Archie says so.
I've always been told that buying used watch was bad luck for the chinese as previous owner's bad luck was "attached" to the watch.
I know that many newly rich chinese buy brand new luxury watches but I'm wondering about a lot of them buying a lot of used watches as an investment.

.
A bit of language there mate  . It sounds like we are all f**cked. :(
On a serious note I remember when all the vintage Rolex Oysters disappeared from Europe to Japan in the '80s only to come back again in the early '00s. Such is the ebb and flow.

Generally speaking, the Chinese and the Japanese frown on buying used goods, whether watches, clothes, electronic gear, or most consumer items. Antiques and collectables at auctions are an exception - Antiquorum auctions attract a lot of bids from Chinese watch collectors.

Archie is a douche-bag of the highest calibre and I am embarrassed to be born in the same country as him. Please don't give his whiny videos publicity.

Agreed.
Talking about 'luxury watches' from what sounds like the inside of an empty can of baked beans!
Oh, and what about the "Rolex Speedmaster man on the moon..."

If he were from my country I probably would be ashamed too. But now he is not, so I can enjoy the comedy. I won't see all his videos, but now and again he says something that makes sense. I do enjoy his relaxed manners, for example admitting he lied in a video just to be able to name drop a sponsor...
If it is any comfort to the Australians, I thought he was from South Africa at first. Now, I'm no expert at accents, but that means that most people outside UK, SA and Australia will not be able to pinpoint his native land.
Was I completely off, or does his accent sound a little South African, or is it 100% Australian?

Chinese collectors are buying vintage and modern collectible Leica cameras at specialist auctions and prices of the scarcer items have increased significantly.
