In this thread last month, Kutusov posted this picture of a Citizen chronograph.

It really grabbed my attention. I don't quite know what it was about it. The stark black and white was nice. I liked the faint hints of IWC Ingenieur, especially the AMG chronos. I liked the idea of a quartz watch, and I've always liked titanium (why-o-why did I sell my original EZM-1?) So fuelled by red wine and egged on my Kutusov, I grabbed one from eBay in the US. Here are my thoughts after owning it for a month or so.

It's a handsome watch. It's big, at about 42mm, but slim and light.

The dial is pretty nice actually. There's the finest concentric pattern on the main body of the dial, which is also (i guess) the Eco-Drive solar panel. The 24-hour dial at 9 has a much bigger, plainer concentric pattern, and the two sub dials at 12 and 6 are horizontally striped. Add in the applied indices, and you've got a dial with some nice depth and details.

A nice mixture of brushed case and polished indices, too - a nice little bit of flash.

The watch is only a 30 minute chrono, what with one of the subdials given over to a 24 hour dial - this 24 dial is linked to the hour hand, so I guess it's just an AM/PM indicator, really - there's no chance of stepping the hour hand to make the watch a GMT, which I think is a real shame. With its 100m WR, it would make a great traveller's watch.

The chrono is stiff to start, easy to stop, and can't handle a 'lap' function. Hit the bottom button while the chrono is running and the chrono resets. So, a pretty simple, basic movement.

Flat sapphire crystal, no AR.

The bracelet was a bit of a pain - held together with pins, I knew that I'd do more harm than good trying to adjust it without the correct tools. So in a rare display of patience, I ordered a bracelet tool and waited... The bracelet was straightforward to adjust though, and is comfortable.

Case back is boring. Fair enough.

The lume is minimal, but good, if that makes sense? Just the four cardinal points and the two main hands. Nice blue colour, and lasts pretty much the night through.

Overall, if I was the kind of person who wasn't obsessed by watches, I could see me wearing this as my only watch quite happily. It looks good, it's a good size and weight, it's accurate. It's almost disposable. It's a good watch. And I like it.

But that won't save it from the inevitable chop!
